!ayayay! no me gusta este libro . es una tarea absoluta leerlo. de hecho, es un poco deprimente porque me hace pensar que mi entendimiento de la lengua espanola es insuficiente. es muy dificil leer para mi.
pero tal vez este es el punto. los libros 'como agua para chocolate' y 'el alquimista' fueron muy simples y los criticamos por eso. ahora Jon nos da un libro muy dificil para la comparacion.
tal vez la verdad es que este libro es dificil pero en una manera excesiva / no necesaria. quiero decir que es un libro malo porque trata de ser muy 'complejo' pero en realidad nada mas confusa a sus lectores. (bueno, a mi al menos.)
por ejemplo, la descripcion parece excesiva a mi. me pierde siempre.
me parece a mi que este libro trata de ser algo que no es. se pasea/desfila como 'buena literatura' pero en realidad no es. es superficial en su complejidad. (we are meant to think 'it must be good' because it's difficult to understand. am i supposed to think, oh, if i can't understand it it must be that i'm not of a 'high enough brow' to understand it ??). no, en cambio, creo que es mierda.
ja, de hecho, !es tan ridiculo como la tapa/caratula!
we are supposed to think "hmm, lo que este hombre hace es 'artistico' y 'simbolico'. hmm, muy interesante..."
pero en realidad nada mas es 'some chump playing with a stool'.
esta es la impresion mala que tengo de este libro hasta aqui.
adicionalmente, este libro no es muy disponible a las personas no-nativas de la lengua espanola.
me interesa que piensan los estudiantes nativos de nuestra clase. si tienen problemas con este libro tambien me sentire mejor. :)

I agree with you. this is a difficult book to read, plus i have to read it sitting up straight in an uncomfortable chair because I keep falling asleep. I also have a hard time with the language, I think if I were more fluent I would be able to understand it more thoroughly, but I find myself looking up words quite a bit, which makes it a much slower read. "es dificil pero en una manera excesiva / no necesaria" I was also wondering about this. Is it too difficult to read because he tries to make it more complicated, causing it to sound forced. I'm not sure but it has crossed my mind.
What you have said about this book is exactly how I feel. The book is difficult to read, and I feel that it's my fault because Spanish is my third language. Some of my teachers told me (and my classmates) "If you don't understand, it's my fault, not yours." I feel like the same thing should apply in this book. What's the point of writing a book so difficult that only a limited audience can understand, nevermind like or dislike? I think that a person shouldn't judge something until he/she understands it at least partly.
Este libro es dificil para mi tambien. Pero al contrario con los otros que entendi, me gusta el libro. Aunque no entiendo mucho, me gusta el dialogo y me gusta que es un libro moderno.
No tengo el sentimiento que la complejidad es "forced". Hasta esta punto mi sentimiento que, como Niall menciono un comentario sobre Kerouac: "its not writing, its typing".
ja, i have to admit that i am actually learning to appreciate the book a bit more via the blogs!
reading that which others who have obviously understood more than i have said about it has helped a lot. i'm going to try and appreciate the book for 'what it is' if i can.
[but still, the language used remains an obstacle i fear. (not to mention my short attention span!) =p]
for instance, i am happy that we are no longer reading 'fluff' as it were. i appreciate the heavy philosophical/sociological elements of the book; the darkness the mental-f**k side of it. heck, i love movies like 'requiem for a dream' and 'amorres perros', etc. i like heavy dramatic thinkers. but i'm struggling with this book. i think if i read it in english i might actually appreciate it more.

Me acuerdo con tu cuando dices que este libro no es interesante para las personas quienes no son espanoles y pienso también que la presencia masculino es muy superior que la presencia feminina y podemos decir que no es un libro para las mujeres y es por eso que creo que este libro este aburrido.
